hours to unanimously agree on this first degree murder conviction. as prosecutors put it yesterday, there are no winners in this case. two young parents lost their only child and the grandmother could spend the rest of her life behind bars. when the guilty verdict was read 50-year-old carmela dela rosa remained silent as her daughter and son-in-law wept in the courtroom. the jury rejected defense attorney opposing case that dela rosa was insane when she a cost her two year-old granddaughter angelyn off the tysons corner waterway last november. >> i respect the jury process? although i disagree with the verdict. >> the jury agreed with the prosecutor, that dela rosa planned the murder to that back at her son-in-law, forgetting her daughter pregnant before they were married. >> the ugly truth is that she did understand what she was doing and she did it for a really bad reason, but it was her reason.

right now police are questioning the witnesses after one person was shot and two other stab at temple hills restaurant. two suspects are in custody. two groups of demonstrators are getting ready to industry to d.c. again today. october 2011 and occupy d.c. are protesting corporate greed and the iraq war. a jury recommended 35 years in prison for a woman convicted of killing her granddaughter. a judge will decide their ultimate fate in january -- february. amanda knox could be reunited with her former boyfriend.

her family has invited raffaello sollecito to visit them in the united states. on monday an italian court cleared the two of all charges in connection with the 2007 murder of british student murders curtain. amanda knox's father said they communicated with each other while in prison. a report about whether the parents of a missing missouri baby have stopped cooperating with authorities. police say the parents of the 10-month old lisa irwin stopped cooperating, but family members say that is not true, but they never stopped working with investigators. her parents say that she was taken from her career late monday night. d.c. police 34 driver in a deadly hit-and-run. the victim's family members say that he died after a deer was struck at 14th street and webster streets in northwest d.c. identified as 22-year-old miguel druyard.

county jury recommends for a woman convicted of killing her own granddaughter. the jurors rejected a defense claim that carmela dela rosa was insane when she threw the child of a skywalk at tysons corner mall. jummy olabanji joins us from the satellite center where she has borne the verdict and the sentence. good morning. >> good morning. the jury convicted carmela dela rosa of first-degree murder and recommended a 35-year jail sentence. a grandmother will officially find out perfect 20 sentence by a judge in january. when the verdict was read yesterday in court, the 50-year- old remains stored. the jury rejected the defense claim that she was insane when she threw her granddaughter of the 40-foot walk away. the jury sided with the prosecution who argued all week that dela rosa was motivated by anger at her son-in-law for getting data pregnant out of wedlock. during sentencing angelyn's parents steer fully took the

stand, telling the jury how difficult the whole ordeal has been for them. the prosecutor asked the jury to give dela rosa the maximum which would've been life in prison. we now know the jury came back with 35 years, a sentence the judge cannot increase but likely will not decrease. from the satellite center, jummy olabanji, abc 7 news. a jury has been seated in the trial of accused underwear palmer park abdulmutallab. he's charged with trying to bring down a detroit-bound plane in 2009 by setting off a ebona bomb in his underwear. opening statements will begin on tuesday. we are on the verge of a busy three-day holiday weekend but getting around could be a major challenge spanx to produce and metro closures. brianne carter joins us from the east ballston metro station to help you navigate through this. >> good morning. we have great weather on cap-

silver hill road in suitland. a man with a gun approached a woman and one woman was sexually assaulted. a second-to get away. in a third case a gun and ordered a woman into a 7-eleven store to get cash from an atm. she stayed inside the store and was not hurt. a car crash between two local leaders. virginia senator jim webb wrote a letter to d.c. mayor vincent gray. he asked him to review a report that police are putting drivers with expired tags in jail. the democrat says there is a " no justification for incarcerating people for registration violations." a police spokeswoman says that the officers are just doing their john carr. a controversial new recommendation about prostate cancer screenings. the u.s. preventive services task force says that men do not need to be tested. monday the group will give the blood tests a d. that means the test has no

benefit. the recommendation follows a series of studies. another group is calling this a tremendous mistake. we're learning more about the cancer that steve jobs battle. it was a rare form of cancer that is hard to beat. he was one of more than 47,000 people who will die from pancreatic cancer this year. the type of cancer that he battled was rare and it only affects 3% of patients. it's one of the most difficult to detect. >> the problem with pancreatic cancer is does no good screening test for it. >> peerless symptoms of disease are loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and the onset of diabetes. he joined a list of family faces a lost their life to pancreatic cancer including paul crotty michael landon, and patrick swayze. -- pavarotti. adam caskey is here with us.
